Caravan - Adam De Collibus

He leído esta novela en su versión original (inglés) gracias a su autor Adam De Collibus. Agradezco enormemente que me haya dejado formar parte de su primera novela que tanto he disfrutado.
«Caravan» comienza cuando William Abney, un excombatiente de la primera guerra mundial, que ahora se dedica a la fotografía va a una entrevista de trabajo. En esta será contratado por el periódico “London Dove” para hacer una ruta por África en la que deberá fotografiar cosas que puedan resultar curiosas o interesantes para los extranjeros. Desde Marruecos, pasando por el Sahara para llegar hasta Yemen, nuestro protagonista disfrutará de un viaje en caravana tormentoso y difícil de olvidar.
A través de este camino serán muchos los sentimientos que florecerán en la vida de William. Gracias a sus encuentros con personajes memorables que lograrán en parte salvar la tranquila y apacible vida que tenía antes de aventurarse a cumplir este trabajo. Y es que cada uno de ellos será relevante en la trama y tendrá importancia para el desarrollo de esta misma.
Ciertamente esta es una novela bastante pausada y lenta aunque no por eso debéis pensar que este libro no tiene acción (es que tampoco quiero destriparos la trama) pero cuenta con una parte violenta y dura que me ha sorprendido. Lo mejor es saborearla con calma e ir compartiendo sentimientos y emociones de la mano de William.
En cuanto a los personajes no cuesta nada cogerles cariño, en especial al protagonista. Es un tipo poco ambicioso, sin una gran personalidad o carácter marcado pero que poco a poco va ganándose tu corazón. Su evolución es clara y viviremos con él la superación a sus problemas y miedos que le incapacitan a avanzar como persona.
A pesar de no ser una gran seguidora de la ficción histórica he podido comprobar lo bien escrita que está esta historia. Adam es excelente haciendo descripciones interminables, sin exceso de detalles; su escritura es directa y brilla en calidad.
Sin duda Adam nos ofrece una lectura de autodescubrimiento, psicológica y de crecimiento y conocimiento de sus personajes. Valoro muchísimo la diversidad de culturas y la importancia que le da el escritor a la aceptación de estas y de no temer a lo desconocido.
Os recomiendo que le deis una oportunidad y espero sinceramente que lo disfrutéis tanto como yo. Es un gran debut literario y espero poder leer pronto algo más escrito por él.

Adam, I’m very grateful that you let me be part of your first novel that I have enjoyed so much.
"Caravan" begins when William Abney, a former World War I combatant who now engages in photography, goes to a job interview. In this he will be hired by the newspaper "London Dove" to make a route through Africa in which he must photograph things that may be curious or interesting for foreigners. From Morocco, passing through the Sahara to reach Yemen, our protagonist will enjoy a journey by caravan very stormy.
Along this path will be many feelings that will flourish in William's life. Thanks to their encounters with memorable characters who will save in part the quiet and peaceful life that he had before venturing to accomplish this job. And it is that each of them will be relevant in the plot and will have importance for the development of it.
Certainly this is a rather leisurely and slow novel although you should not think that this book has no action (it is that I don't want to gut you the plot either) but it has a violent and hard part that has surprised me. It's best to savor it calmly and share feelings and emotions from William's hand.
As for the characters it’s not difficult to take love from them, especially the protagonist. He's an unambitious guy, without a big personality or marked character but that gradually wins your heart. His evolution is clear and we will live with him overcoming his problems and fears that make it unable for him to move forward as a person.
I’m not being a big fan of historical fiction, but I have been able to see how well written this story is. Adam is excellent at making endless descriptions, without excess detail; his writing is direct and shines in quality.
Adam certainly offers us a reading of self-discovery, psychological and growth and knowledge of his characters. I highly value the diversity of cultures and the importance that the writer attaches to accepting them and not fearing the unknown.
I recommend you give it a chance and I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It's a great literary debut and I hope to be able to read something else written by him soon.
